About the Award

Purpose
Outgoing exchange program is traditionally a popular and cost-effective decision among university students in Hong Kong to gain valuable study abroad experience for a short period of time. It does not only facilitate personal growth, but also provides an unforgettable opportunity for you to embrace and appreciate new cultures and values.

As a renowned global educational assessment organization, ETS decide to establish the TOEFL Award for Hong Kong’s Outgoing Exchange Students to show our support to any potential TOEFL test takers who are preparing a wonderful adventure for self-development.

Who can apply

To be eligible for the TOEFL Award for Hong Kong’s Outgoing Exchange Students, applicants must:

hold a valid Hong Kong ID card (either Permanent Resident or Non-Permanent Resident) and are currently studying at one of the tertiary institutions in Hong Kong.
submit application for any academic exchange programs organized / recognized by their institution by 13 December 2024.

have a minimum TOEFL iBT total score of 80 or achieve the minimum TOEFL iBT score required by the exchange program they apply for, whichever is higher.
possess a valid TOEFL iBT score at the time when they submit their applications, and the test must be taken in Hong Kong.

Application Procedure

Task 1

Lodge your application

1 Download and complete the application form in English, and remember to complete the short personal statement part to cover the following points:

  • Why do you want to do an exchange program in your desired country?
  • What do you expect your exchange experience can benefit your personal growth?
  • Sharing your TOEFL iBT experience: Why do you choose the TOEFL iBT test? How do you think it will benefit your exchange experience or bring positive changes to you?

2 Submit your completed application form together with the supporting documents listed below to by 11.59 p.m. (HK Time), Friday, 13 December 2024.

  • A scanned copy of your valid Hong Kong ID card (either in pdf or jpg format)
  • A soft copy of your valid TOEFL iBT score report (in pdf format)
  • A proof to show that you have applied for any exchange programs (e.g. applicant acknowledgement email), can be submitted at a later stage

Please use the subject line “Application for TOEFL Exchange Award” in your email.
You will receive a confirmation of receipt within 3 business days which will include your application reference.

Task 2

Social Media Voting

1 After lodging your application, create and publish an Instagram post or reel, in either English or Chinese,to share your decision to participate in this award program and encourage peers and friends to engage with your content.

Remember to include the award hashtags #TOEFL4XCHANGE and #TOEFLHK in your post or reel.
Here are some ideas for your post or reel. It is not mandatory for applicants to appear in person in the post or reel. Anyway, make it funny and creative!

Application Assessment

First Round: Shortlisting

your personal statement (60%):

whether you can describe how a successful overseas exchange experience can benefit your personal growth

your participation in the social media voting (40%):

the accumulated number of likes, shares and comments of your post or reel at the end of the social media voting stage
the creativity of your post or reel

Second Round: Online Interview

Shortlisted candidates will be invited to attend the online interview. This is a 15-minute casual interview. The purpose of the interview is to further assess your potential to serve as an ambassador for cultural exchange and the TOEFL brand.
